George Ella Lyon

George Ella Lyon was born in Harlan County, Kentucky in 1949. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Centre College in Danville, then later went on to complete her PhD in English at Indiana University. Lyon began by writing poetry, and got her first book of poetry, Mountain, published in 1983. Lyon's accomplishments include many awards, creating and hosting a writing workshop series for KET, and having a children's book featured on PBS' Reading Rainbow. Currently, George Ella lives in Lexington, KY.
