Lee Smith

Lee Smith was born in Grundy, Virginia in 1944. She graduated from Hollins College in 1967. Smith seemed to enjoy success from the beginning of her writing career, and her long list of awards include the 1983 Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Fiction,  a Lyndhurst Fellowship, and an award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Smith and her husband, Hal Crowther, help teach writing classes at the Hindman Settlement School Writers Workshop in Knott County, Kentucky.
